Bible Verses
You, my brothers and
sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the
flesh; rather, serve one another humbly
in love. For the entire law is fulfilled
in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out
or you will be destroyed by each other.
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of
the flesh.
What do you prefer?
Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline, or shall I come in love and with
a gentle spirit?
The Lord sent Nathan to
David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one
rich and the other poor. The rich man
had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing
except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him
and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his
arms. It was like a daughter to him.
“Now a traveler came
to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or
cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took
the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had
come to him.”
David burned with
anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who
did this must die! He must pay for that
lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.”
Then Nathan said to
David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord,
the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you
from the hand of Saul.
Brothers and
sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should
restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.
I am writing this
not to shame you but to warn you as my dear children. Even if you had ten thousand guardians in
Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father
through the gospel.
Even if I caused you
sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it. Though I did regret it - I see that my
letter hurt you, but only for a little while - yet now I am happy, not because
you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and
so were not harmed in any way by us. Godly
sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but
worldly sorrow brings death. See what
this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to
clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern,
what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves
to be innocent in this matter.
